(CBS DETROIT) — Ascension Michigan reported Wednesday that it is experiencing a disruption in its technology systems due to a cyberattack, which also impacted Ascension hospitals nationwide.
Their technology network detected the unusual activity on May 8, according to a release. Ascension initiated their investigation immediately.
The cyberattack disrupted clinical operations.
“Access to some systems has been interrupted as this process continues,” according to the release from Ascension. “Our care teams are trained for these kinds of disruptions and have initiated procedures to ensure patient care delivery continues to be safe and as minimally impacted as possible.”
The healthcare provider has notified authorities and is using a third-party expert, Mandiant, to assist with the investigation.
If any sensitive information is impacted, Ascension Michigan will notify those people according to legal guidelines.
