Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport launched new automated screening lanes at security checkpoints.
The 3D imagery technology is intended to improve security effectiveness and efficiency, as well as expedite travelers’ time spent during the security-screening process, Transportation Security Administration officials said Monday.
“So, with this 3D imagery, they’re able to really detect explosives within the bag, and they’re able to detect liquids that are in the bag, and they’re able to ensure that what you’re bringing into the checkpoint is safe and secure. So, these automated screening lanes and the computer tomography, it’s a security feature, but it’s also a customer experience feature, as well,” said Christopher Murgia, a federal security director at the TSA.
TSA officials also warn travelers to pack their firearms properly, saying it must be declared and must go into checked baggage. Violators face potential arrest, criminal citations and/or fines.
