EL CENTRO, CA (Saturday, July 6, 2024) – Legacy MD Medical Group (formerly Vo Medical Center) is thrilled to announce the acquisition and implementation of the cutting-edge Fibroscan technology for liver elastography. This is a medical imaging technique that maps the elastic properties and stiffness of soft tissue. A cancerous tumor will often be harder than the surrounding tissue; diseased livers are stiffer than healthy ones. This state-of-the-art equipment marks a significant advancement in Legacy MD’s commitment to providing comprehensive care to patients.
The Fibroscan is a non-invasive diagnostic tool designed to assess liver health by measuring liver stiffness and fat content through a painless procedure. By utilizing ultrasound technology, the Fibroscan provides accurate and immediate results, allowing healthcare providers at Legacy MD to better evaluate liver conditions such as fibrosis and steatosis.
Victor Murguia, Executive Manager at Legacy MD, expressed enthusiasm about the introduction of Fibroscan.
“We are excited to bring this advanced technology to our practice, as it enhances our providers’ ability to monitor and manage liver diseases more effectively. Previously, such precise liver assessments were not widely available in our area, and we are proud to pioneer this capability in the primary care setting,” Murguia said.
Liver diseases, including fatty liver disease and hepatitis, are increasingly prevalent and often require ongoing monitoring to prevent progression to more severe conditions. The Fibroscan’s ability to provide quick, reliable data will empower physicians at Legacy MD to initiate timely interventions and personalized treatment plans for our patients.

Patients can now benefit from this non-invasive procedure, which replaces more invasive methods like liver biopsy, thus reducing patient discomfort and recovery time significantly.
According to www.liverfoundation.org, more than 100 million people in the U.S. have some form of liver disease. If left untreated, liver disease can lead to liver failure and liver cancer. Chronic liver disease/cirrhosis was the 12th leading cause of death in the U.S. in 2020
And www.today.com reports that “liver disease can be caused by genetics, autoimmune diseases, metabolic disorders, bile duct blockages, viruses (such as hepatitis), alcohol abuse and obesity.”
