New DAC Technology Promises Sub-$100 Capture Price – Energy Intelligence

Emerging technologies for removing CO2 directly from the air are pushing the cost of the buzzy decarbonization method potentially below $100 per ton, a price point experts say could unlock mass deployment of direct air capture (DAC). Current cost estimates for most existing DAC technologies range from as low as $400/ton to $1,000/ton or higher, pricing out many buyers who might be interested in purchasing CO2 removal credits, known as CDRs, to offset their emissions. Experts have said getting DAC costs below $150 will be critical for widespread adoption, but few have expected that mark to be reached before 2030 at the earliest.
