WWNY Learning about JCC's Zoo Technology program – WWNY

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Students interested in Jefferson Community College’s Zoo Technology program can register now for the fall semester or fulfill prerequisites this summer.
Program Director Dr. Mark Irwin and Keirsten Chiodi appeared on 7 News at Noon on Wednesday. Click on the picture to watch their interview.
Through the program, students gain hands-on experience and work alongside zookeepers, veterinarians, curators, educators and administrators.
As part of this year’s capstone project, students will provide animal enrichment education and presentations to guests at Zoo New York’s season kickoff on May 4.
Zookeepers need technical expertise and knowledge of science to provide the best animal care, educate the public and participate in regional, national, and international cooperative programs. JCC says its program provides that.
In addition, Jefferson students have conducted zoo technology internships as far away as Alaska! Graduates have found jobs throughout the country.
Starting JCC’s Zoo Technology program in the fall is recommended. Prerequisites in Math and English are required and can be completed during the summer session.
Special session classes start on May 28. Early and full-session courses begin June 3.
